Doug Coleman's practice focuses on professional liability claims, particularly the defense of malpractice suits against nursing homes, physicians, dentists, lawyers, accountants and pension consultants. He has defended several hundred Virginia real estate agents since 1987 in various proceedings, including ethics and licensure hearings, and regularly teaches continuing education courses in this area for both agents and attorneys.
Doug also practices in the related fields of employment law, pension, health and disability benefits under ERISA and state law, and employment discrimination claims. A native Alexandrian, his interest in history and architecture has led to the occasional case in the unusual field of historic preservation.
Doug graduated with a B.A. in English and anthropology from the University of Virginia in 1982, returning to Alexandria in 1985 after receiving his law degree from the University of Richmond.
Doug is a member of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and the Alexandria Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
